Meet the Director

A native of Lima, Peru, RAYMI's director and band leader Juan A. Cayrampoma is a self-taught musician who fell in love with Andean music after traveling to the Andes (Puno) when he was 12. Now, he is dedicated to sharing the music of the Andes with the rest of the world.

Juan's contribution to RAYMI consists of zampoñas, quenas, mosceños and tarkas instrumentation. Mainly focused on the Andean wind instruments, he also plays guitar, charango and alto saxophone.

Juan's musical influences are based on several genres:

Andean Music: Los Kjarkas, Illapu, Rumillajta, Los Jaivas, and Kalamarka

Latin Jazz: Arturo Sandoval, Gato Barbieri, and Eddie Palmieri

That's how this talented musician fuses his experiences with the modern world's sound: by sharing a solid message about the mystique and captivation of the music of the Andes.
